Camel
Racing
United Arab Emirates gives the
camel races a very great importance
because it is one of the public
sports known a long time ago
inherited within the group of
the public heritage. These races
which are carried out continuously
and in the form of tournament
found the greatest care and
attention by morale and financial
aid and support of His Highness
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan
UAE President and his brothers,
the Members of the Supreme Council
and ruler of the Emirates.
The
well arranged, organized, designed,
prepared and well equipped camel
race tracks are spread all over
the UAE. Not only in the Emirates
but also in the small villages
and the desert areas which are
inhabited by Bedouins who are
caring very much about authentic
Arab camels. The annual closing
festivals are carried out in
Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and RAK. Hundreds
of vehicles are presented from
the Governments, Companies,
Establishments, banks and trades
of the private sector as a share
in these occasions and to encourage
their local brothers, the camel
owners and the camel trainers.
In
RAK Emirate a modern camel racetrack
has been established at Al Sawan
area with a length of 10 km
and a circular shape. A main
modern platform is constructed
there at the finishing point
of the racetrack.
Camel
races in RAK are carried out
according to the annual program
prepared by the UAE camel race
union, from mid September up
to the end of April annually.
Two golden cups have been allotted
as an incentive for the competition
to show the capability of the
full-blooded Arabic camels.
The first from His Highness
Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi
Member of the Supreme Council
and Ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah
allotted for camels of (Yathaa)
age. The second cup of H.H.
Sheikh Khalid Bin Saqr Al-Qasimi
Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler
of RAK allotted for the camels
of Lagaya age. These competitions
are carried out within the final
race in RAK. This kind of sport
attracted the visitors and the
staying people, because they
like to know the camel roots
and how to be treated.
